Born in Detroit, Michigan
Louis F. Badalament was a proud graduate of the University of Detroit High School where he was elected as his junior class president. He attended the University of Detroit College School of Engineering before enlisting in the United States Air Force during WWII from 1942-1946. From there, he attended officer's engineering school at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
After the war, Lou was discharged and went to work for his family's business, Badalament, Inc., a successful produce distribution company.
On September 10, 1949, he married the love of his life, Grace (nee Costello) and together they raised six children. In the early 1950s, Lou was recalled to serve his country during the Korean Conflict, stationed two years in Alaska. After returning home, he took over running the family business until his retirement in 2005.
He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus Member and was very active in his council. Additionally, he was a devoted Legionary with the Legion of Mary. He remained physically active right up until the very end as well. His hobbies included drawing/painting, watching Detroit Tigers baseball and most of all he enjoyed being with family.
His wife of 64 years, Grace died in 2013. Survived by his children, Michael (Rita), Robert (Providence), Terri, Thomas, Mark (Brenda) and Stephen; his grandchildren, Louis Francis, Peter, Grace (Brian), Thérèse (Peter), Louis Michael, Katherine, Reagan, Mary Rose, Isabella, Blaise and great grandchildren, Providence & George. Preceded in death by his siblings, Bertha Musetti (the late Andrew), Josephine Lane, Peter Badalament (the late Gertrude) and Joseph Badalament.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 2-8PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave. (between 13-14 Mile Rds.). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10AM at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon at Woodland, Birmingham. Visitation at the church will begin at 9:30AM.
